Meal Up Terms of Service

Terms, made clear.

These terms explain how you can use Meal Up, what you can expect from us, and the limits of what Meal Up does. Please read them carefully, especially the sections on health, allergies, and AI-generated content.

Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and [Legal company name] (“Meal Up”, “we”, “us”). They apply to the Meal Up mobile app and this website (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use Meal Up, or older if your country requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Meal Up only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

You sign in with your Apple or Google account. You are responsible for keeping that account secure, for the accuracy of the information you give us, and for all activity under your Meal Up account.

The service

Meal Up lets you scan ingredients, meals, and barcodes, get meal ideas and recipes, estimate nutrition, set nutrition goals, track what you eat, and build grocery lists. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may set reasonable usage limits (such as a daily number of scans) to keep the Service reliable for everyone. We don’t guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Premium subscriptions

Most of Meal Up’s features, including AI scanning, meal suggestions, barcode lookups, and grocery lists, require a paid Premium subscription.

  • Billing. Subscriptions are purchased and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, using the payment method on your store account. The price, currency, and billing period are shown in the app before you buy.
  • Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Free trials. If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
  • Unlimited scans and fair use. Premium includes unlimited meal photo scans and ingredient photos for normal, personal use. To prevent abuse, such as automated use or one account shared among many people, each account has a fair-use limit of 50 meal photo scans and 100 ingredient photos a day. Meal idea sets are limited to 15 a day. Limits reset at midnight in your time zone, and we may adjust them with notice in the app.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, or from Settings → Manage Subscription in the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you keep Premium until then.
  • Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel through the store to stop future charges.
  • Refunds. Payments are handled by Apple or Google, so refunds are subject to their policies. You can request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Google Play. We can’t issue refunds for store purchases ourselves.
  • Price changes. We may change subscription prices. The store will notify you in advance as its rules require, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
  • Restoring purchases. If you reinstall the app or change devices, use “Restore Purchases” with the same store account.

Not medical advice

Meal Up is not a medical device and does not provide medical, nutritional, or dietetic advice. Calorie and nutrient goals are general estimates calculated from the information you provide (using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation), and meal suggestions are general ideas. None of it is tailored to your medical needs.

Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, or another medical condition, take medication, or have or have had an eating disorder. Do not use Meal Up to diagnose, treat, or manage any condition, and never ignore professional advice because of something in the app. If you think you have a medical emergency, contact emergency services.

Allergies and food safety

Meal Up does not check for allergens, intolerances, or dietary restrictions. Recipes, ingredient lists, and scan results may include or miss allergens, and ingredient recognition can be wrong. If you or anyone you cook for has a food allergy or intolerance, always check every ingredient and product label yourself.

You are responsible for how you prepare, store, and cook food, including cooking food to safe temperatures and judging whether ingredients are fresh and safe to eat. Meal Up’s suggestions don’t mean an ingredient is safe or unspoiled.

AI-generated content

Ingredient recognition, meal analysis, nutrition estimates, recipes, cooking instructions, and price estimates are generated automatically by AI. They can be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate for you. Review AI output before relying on it, and edit values that look wrong. You use AI-generated content at your own risk.

Nutrition and price estimates

Nutrition information comes from AI estimates, public databases (such as USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts), and product data, and actual values vary with brands, portions, and preparation. Grocery prices are rough estimates for your country and currency, not quotes from any store. Don’t rely on either for medical, budgeting, or purchasing decisions where accuracy matters.

Health app connections

You can choose to connect Apple Health or Health Connect so Meal Up can show your steps, active calories, and exercise. Activity data depends on your devices and those services, and we don’t guarantee its accuracy. Our Privacy Policy explains how this data is handled.

Your content

You own the photos, meals, and other content you add to Meal Up (“Your Content”). You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, and display Your Content, and to send it to our service providers (including AI providers), only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for analysis results that no longer identify you and copies we must keep by law.

You confirm that you have the right to upload Your Content and that it doesn’t violate anyone’s rights or the law. Don’t upload photos of other people without their permission.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything illegal, harmful, or fraudulent;
  • upload content that is unlawful, infringing, explicit, or unrelated to food;
  • copy, scrape, resell, or commercially exploit the Service or its output without our permission;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or try to extract the source code or models behind the Service, except where the law allows it;
  • get around usage limits, subscription checks, or security measures, or access other users’ accounts or data;
  • overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service, including with bots or automated scripts; or
  • use the Service to build a competing product.

Third-party services

Meal Up relies on third-party services, such as Apple and Google for sign-in and payments, AI providers, and public food databases. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms, and we aren’t responsible for them. Links to other websites or apps (such as our social media pages) are provided for convenience.

Our intellectual property

The Service, including the app, its design, software, and the Meal Up name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.

Termination

You can stop using Meal Up and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, misuse the Service, or if we must for legal reasons. Where reasonable, we’ll tell you first. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we’ll give reasonable notice. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity) survive termination.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that nutrition data, AI output, or price estimates are accurate, or that the Service will meet your needs or be free of errors.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Meal Up and its owners, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, or for any illness, allergic reaction, or injury arising from food you prepare or eat based on the Service.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$50.

Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and indemnify Meal Up against claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your misuse of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [State or Province, Country], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us at support@mealup.app so we can try to resolve it informally.

App Store and Google Play

Apple. If you downloaded Meal Up from the Apple App Store, your license to use the app is governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, and these Terms also apply to the extent they don’t conflict with it. These Terms are between you and Meal Up, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app, its content, maintenance, support, or any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Google. If you downloaded Meal Up from Google Play, Google Play’s terms also apply to your download and purchases.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as Meal Up changes. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

General

These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a provision, that isn’t a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours, for example as part of a merger or sale.
